Trees, hedges and bulbs planted by volunteers as stage one of the project gets underway after fundraising success. Planting has begun for a wildflower meadow in Maghull following a successful crowdfunding campaign. Landscaping and planting began at the meadow on Stafford Morton Way in Maghull, organised by the newly formed Friends of Maghull and District charity group. Three areas of land have been stripped of turf, rotovated and planted with 12 trees, 28 metres of mixed wildlife friendly hedging and 1,500 spring bulbs.

The work was undertaken by local volunteers, including Ashworth Hospital Gardeners, schoolchildren from St George’s and Green Park Primary Schools, and Mersey Forest. Wood chippings are being supplied by Paul Richards. Dr Frank Sharp (FOMD Trustee) said: “Roy, Laurence and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped on this cold but sunny day.

“It has been a fantastic community response from everyone throughout and at this time of the year it feels like an early Christmas present from the community to the community. “Stage two of the project will be undertaken in April 2020 and will involve laying wildflower turf, installing a noticeboard and a galvanised steel recycling sculpture.” Further information and updates can be found on www.spacehive.com/stafford-moreton and donations are still being collected in Morrisons and Home Bargains.
