Three Nordman Christmas trees and one Atlantic Cedar were planted last Wednesday on Bobby’s Wood/Woodend (junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway) as part of the Friends of Maghull and District environmental charity project.
When we started our stage I of 3 crowdfunding in April 2020 we approached the construction company (A.E.Yates) and Sefton Highways Department whilst they were reconstructing the neighbouring junction, to see if they could provide any support for our project (1)
Consequently, we were surprised and delighted to learn recently that they had agreed to provide £1000 worth of evergreen trees. As a result, the trees were planted and will be maintained for two years by the Green Sefton Department (with many thanks to Stephen Whiteside (Deputy Tree Officer) – pictured and his colleagues Dave and Liam). With special thanks to Richard Gibbs from Sefton Highways. Incidentally, we met with Richard this week and he informed us that he has several more green improvements to make to the junction which he hopes to undertake in April 2021.
We were very keen to have these trees to provide structure to the open perimeter of the site, whilst also providing an all year round colour, and interest close to the planned perimeter pathway. The neighbouring Bumbles Nursery children are already planning to decorate one for Christmas.
Thank you to the local community for being so positive with their feedback about the trees.
Please help us to continue the green improvements by donating for our stage 2 of 3 crowdfunding project, which in this case is focusing on populating a 50×4 rear border and additional bulbs and wildflowers around various parts of the proposed pathway, by visiting www.justgiving.com/crowdfund/woodend, where we have currently raised £185 towards our £3-5000 October target. Alternatively, we have collection containers at the following: Morrisons, Dover Road – Post Office, The Chippy, and The Blue Star.
Although we have had an overwhelming response from the local community to donate Woodland shrubs/plants, we are still keen to accept further plant donations before the end of March (dormant growth period). Simply leave them on the border for us to plant or contact us on the email address below.
