In 2019, the Woodend/Bobby’s Wood (junction of Liverpool Road, South and Northway) was an uninspiring space as a drab entrance to Maghull and unusable by most people and wildlife, and a potential magnet for even more housebuilding in Maghull.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic restrictions the Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD) unbelievably raised more than £30,000, to make the area a safe, accessible, interesting and naturally beautiful area that has become a regular destination. We even surprised ourselves this week by looking at long forgotten Google pictures capturing what it looked like before we started!

Woodend was transformed by creating an ‘accessible’ 230m Cotswolds style path. A ‘safe’ 230m perimeter fence and wildlife friendly hedging. Created a new 50x4m border planted with countless plant donations. Planted and installed: trees, bulbs, benches, bins, noticeboard, rockery, children’s eco-education corner, coronation picnic area, and a community kindness art installation.

Many Thanks to Joan, Jill pictured, and Colin and Frank not pictured. They continued with the maintenance this week (9.9.24) by:

  • Weeding, pruning and hedge cutting the beautiful 50×4 m border
  • Removing two more agricultural bags to the recycling centre.

All the Best,

FOMD
