Eight Thousand Free Trees Secured for Maghull.
Maghull Town Council have received and stored (in a process called healing*) these trees from Mersey Forest. The trees have been temporarily planted at short notice in Maghull with a view to being permanently planted in November 2020 onwards (enough for two Hectares).
We appealed to the Maghull Community Facebook Page and received a fantastic response notably from Amanda-Jayne Bold, and Faye Davies.
Eventually, Christine Sharp & Dan Manning planted 4000 and latterly Joanne, Keith, Oliver Andrews planted the remaining 4000, at their respective properties for which we as a community are immensely grateful.
Ben Greenaway from Mersey Forest has been terrific in obtaining these trees for us. I was involved in the latter planting with young Oliver (pictured) which overall took approximately 8 hours including trimming roots, bundling, labelling, watering, planting and more watering. Preparing the land would have been impossible without the support of Dave Evans (pictured) and his digger. He dug out six trenches in the rock-hard soil. Whilst, Oliver and myself undertook the planting and watering. Oliver’s mum Joanne told him it would only take a few minutes, so it was a real credit to him that that he was so enormously helpful throughout.
More mature trees are expected in a separate arrangement with Mersey Forest.
In the meantime, please consider supporting our new project at www.spacehive.com/woodend
* Healing: planting bundles of tree whips into a trench, to keep them alive whilst discouraging growth, prior to planting, in the tree planting season between November and March. https://www.facebook.com/groups/154530851941643/permalink/623664078361649/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98E3ApA7cmQ
