Community focused Paul Richards (local tree surgeon 1) has come to the rescue of local nursery schoolchildren (Bumbles Nursery) by providing more than five tons of woodchip for free, for a children’s nature corner pathway, as the part of Woodend Community Woodland Project, organised by the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD).

Paul has been enormously kind, professional, friendly and generous with his support of most of our projects over the years, we even had some leftover to act as a weed suppressant, hydrating mulch around our new Woodend trees.

Maghull’s first children’s nature corner is ongoing and now comprises of the completed path which takes you on a journey around the rear of the large bug hotel on one side and around a large community planted border on the other side. We are also hoping to surround the bug hotel with wildflowers in the near future, emulating a design we used at our Parkbourn Project.

The enchanted children (pictured with staff and FOMD volunteer Paul) have recently enchanted the adults by undertaking a period of sponsored litter picking, with half of the proceeds going to the maintenance of their defibrillator and the other half being donated to our Woodend project.

Paul’s Saturday delivery of woodchip could only be delivered outside the project area, which meant transporting it over by wheelbarrow to the far side of the site over several days, with some immediacy as it would compost very quickly and in the high temperatures. With the temperatures it was reminiscent of ‘Bridge Over the River Kwai’, but well worth it to see the beautiful outcome.

On Wednesday, we were very grateful to our FOMD volunteer Paul (another Paul pictured) who despite many other charitable commitments kindly helped with the ongoing border weeding as part of FOMD’s ‘One Hour Initiative to Make Maghull a Better Place to Live’. Please check our events page for the next ‘One Hour Initiative’ tomorrow and future dates, if you would like to help without any commitment: www.fomd.co.uk

All the best,

FOMD
