The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) would like to express our enormous and continued gratitude to Paul and Harry Richards for providing absolutely tons of wood chippings (pictured) on this occasion (15.8.22) at Woodend/Bobby’s Wood, which due to access issues was kindly delivered close to the site but had to be painstakingly wheelbarrowed nearly 100m to the rear border over a period of four hours by FOMD. We are incredibly indebted to Paul, as he has supported us in a similar fashion in all four projects, we have been involved in over the last four years and has kindly agreed to provide further wood chippings for our tree planting at Hudson Primary School and Pimbley Playing Field.
The wood chippings are fantastic for providing an attractive weed suppressant mulch for our new borders and surrounding trees and is particularly useful for supporting water retention during unseasonably dry periods.
Consequently, the newly created 50×4m border, which was populated by hundreds of woodland themed community donated plants generally only needs weeding once a year. So, we are gradually weeding the border section by section which so far has taken three hours clear 10m of the 50m border following the dieback of daffodils, tulips, bluebells.
As this is the third and final year of our environment project at Woodend (Junction of Northway/Liverpool Road South), we are hopeful of securing the final improvements before the end of this year. Sadly, when the BBC were filming recently the weeding was still ongoing but nevertheless perhaps it filled our criteria for a woodland themed border!
A huge thank you also, to the MTC Park Rangers who not only removed our mountain of weeding but continue to maintain Maghull’s 14 parks and 19 the open spaces to such a fantastic high standard, despite the fact that the small hard-working team has only recently been restored to a seamlessly full complement following sickness and departures.
If anyone can spare any time, even if it is a one off half an hour or so, at your convenience, it would be fantastic, and enable us to progress other aspects and planning of future projects.
