The invaluable Mersey Care NHS Foundation Horticultural Team, who have been instrumental in providing immeasurable support in every project your award-winning Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD) have been involved in, have gone above and beyond, despite their busy schedule, to help our community by massively advancing our community cleanup and green improvements, at the Dell in the centre of Maghull.

Paul Pruden (Horticultural Manager for the whole of Mersey care – stretching from Southport to Warrington) and his team (Steve, Dave and Phil), somehow found the time (31.1.24 and 1.2.24), to apply their expertise to flail the damaging ground ivy, brambles and woodchip a mountain of branches, to be recycled into the ground to form a mulch. Thus, enabling our community team to access the impenetrable decades of litter beneath, for the good of humans and wildlife.

Our one-hour sessions over the last 13 consecutive weeks has resulted in collecting 91 bin bags of litter, a huge array of debris and 22 (even more not bagged!) agricultural bags of tree and wall damaging Ivy, receiving some wonderful feedback and clearly seeing the difference every time we are there.

Please Help.

We now need your urgent support, in a race against time to remove the newly exposed litter and debris before the growing season starts again, as we fully expect to fill hundreds of bin bags of litter and debris. We have also prepared a border for a 40m hedge comprising of 250 wildlife friendly hedge whips, which we would also welcome your kind support with.

Even if you cannot make our organised next one-hour event (10.2.24), we would value anyone calling down throughout the week, to collect any litter they can find.

For more information about one hour help out ‘events’ and ‘project’ updates please check the respective tabs on our website below.

A huge thank you, once again, to Paul and his NHS team for their amazing kind-hearted support for our community project.
