On the 27.11.23 Maghull’s ‘CK’ (Community Kindness) Art Installation was unveiled by the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) at their four-year crowd funded Woodend Community Woodland Project, at the Maghull’s southern entrance from Switch Island at the junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway (L31 7BG).
The iconic refurbished floral art lambanana known as ‘CK’ was painted stunningly by Aimee Burns and the Maghull High School Art department, earlier this year.
Whilst the rockery surround provides a beautiful natural element to the plinth. It also functions to highlight acts of community kindness through the plaques planted within the rockery, which will be refreshed with new and old acts of community kindness, and recorded on the FOMD website ( www.fomd.co.uk ) forever to celebrate and inspire community kindness that was born out of the pandemic challenges.
The pictorial sequence of pictures show our grateful community story of the making of the CK art installation and also described below:
• The beautiful floral refurbishment was purchased in February 2023 by FOMD (using community crowdfunding), from Lisa (The Lip Dr on Claremont Ave).
• Transported down Sefton Lane by Ken & Thomas Hughes, Matthew Locke and myself.
• Expertly renovated, primed and afterwards lacquered by Mark Barker (MB Auto Body Repairs, Sefton Industrial Estate).
• Transported and fixed on site by Ken Hughes, Paul Boyle, Phil Roberts and myself.
• Painted by Maghull High School talented Art Students (mainly Aimee Burns and her Head of Art teacher Mrs Hannah Ebboral.
• The 3 foot high plinth was designed by Ken Hughes,
• A free base slab, walls and topsoil was undertaken by MV Kelly Civil Engineering.
• The sandstone top slab was sourced and cut by Sean in Wigan.
• The top slab and giant rockery were transported and positioned by Alan Frost (Grabber Lorry Driver), John Ashton (Hyab Crane Driver) and supported by Ken Hughes, Paul Broughton, and myself.
• The huge rockery was donated for free by Sean.
• The plaque was manufactured by Alexander Media.
• The rockery plants and mini flower shaped plaques were sourced and planted by FOMD.
• Sefton Council’s local councillor (Marion Atkinson) negotiated with Aldi (Bryn Richards) to kindly pay for rockery transport and plants, top slab, the Coronation Picnic Area and approximately 12 standard trees.
Best Wishes,
FOMD
