Last year (21.11.22), at the height of the cost of living crisis, the Friends of Maghull & District CIC (FOMD) successfully applied for a £3110 grant from Sefton Council Voluntary Services, and with the immeasurable and tireless support from Maghull Town Council (particularly Phil Dillan – MTC Community Services Manager), Kelly-AnneTaylor (The Venue Manager), and numerous kind-hearted volunteers, the Monday afternoon group has become the most attended group within Sefton, with attendances between 40 and 70 residents.

During the winter, it not only provided a warm space (known as the Cosy Club) but absolutely delicious food courtesy of Kelly, entertainment from a talented variety of musicians, regular bingo and board games, but heart-warmingly the most important component appeared to be good company, as everybody really warmed to each other. Elsewhere, our amazing community really did rise to the challenge, with groups available in a myriad of venues across Maghull which enabled people to attend a warm space throughout the entire week.

The group continues to take place until the end of July (but closed on the 26.6.23 and 3.7.23) in the Venue, upstairs in the town hall, with light refreshments. Should funding be made available again it is likely that we would explore resurrecting this club again for the benefit of the community. However, considering the warm weather, perhaps we should say that you can now ‘chill’ in the Cosy Club instead!

A huge thank you to everyone involved who have made this group such a wonderful success. The happiness it has created has been absolutely precious to everyone.

All the best,

FOMD
