BBC producer/presenter Steve Coleman recently visited Maghull to film and interview the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) on behalf of our kind community, following the news by his colleague Paul Beesley in June that we had been nominated by Cllr John Sayers in April and shortlisted from hundreds to a final four, for one of eight ‘Make a Difference’ categories entitled – Environmental Award, and to be decided at an events in late September!
The media attention was a daunting prospect, despite the fact that Steve was as friendly in person as he is on the radio. In fact, I don’t think Steve, Paul and his BBC colleagues realise that they have been friendly daily visitors to our homes for years and that their warmth, humour and community spirit has been making an inspirational difference for countless years. On reflection, it is only on occasions like this when we actually stop, reflect and realise how much we have achieved for the local environment, in such a short time and with the immeasurable support of our local community. We never even mentioned the small matter of planting 15,000 trees over the last 18 months! Steve filmed Joan and Frank walking through various parts of Woodend and interviewed us afterwards to dub onto the video later.
A huge thank you to everyone in our community who have helped to make a difference to our community especially at such unprecedented challenging times recently. This tribute is to you all.
FOMD has only been around since 2019 and comprises of a handful of people who already undertake other charity work, so we really rely on our community for support at different stages of our environmental projects.
We have been involved in a multitude of activities since 2019, with the main four crowdfunded projects including the following: Parkbourn Project (1), Stafford Moreton Way Project (raising £6500) (2), Woodend Project (raising £30,000) (3), Tree planting (planting 15,000 trees over the last 18 months) (3).
Please check out our current three year Woodend project with the combined:
2020 Introductory crowd funding campaign video and
2022 Thank you video.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped to make a difference. You’re amazing.
All the best,
FOMD
