The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) with the communities amazing support have been selected from apparently hundreds of nominees to be one of four finalists, for an environmental award, as part of the BBC ‘Make a Difference’ awards, to be decided this week. This tribute is a huge thank you to one and all.
Our interview with Tony Snell supported by Claire Minter was broadcast last week. The interview had to be reduced to 10 minutes, so does not cover all our projects but nevertheless was a lovely experience not least because of how warm and friendly Tony and Claire were but also for the long-term highlighting and supporting of so many inspiring charity stories.
Our interview and the other finalists can be found in the links below and comprise of the Norris Green Park project, the St Helens MIND Allotment, and Ritchie (Baker) the Ranger. We have no expectation of winning as some of the finalists have been undertaking environmental work professionally since 1973, but it will be fantastic to rub shoulders and maybe network with so many inspiring people on the night.
FOMD is a very small group which started in 2019, and have worked voluntarily and almost full-time, whilst everyone is already involved in other charities. Nevertheless, we have achieved some of the following projects, comprising of a myriad sub-projects.
Parkbourn Project. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/parkbourn
Stafford Moreton Way. Project https://www.spacehive.com/stafford-moreton
Woodend Project. https://www.spacehive.com/woodend
Planted 15,000 trees in two short planting seasons, and commended by the late Queen’s local representative.
Attracted an unprecedented £45,000 green investment into Maghull’s 14 parks.
Currently planning (1) our largest project which requires £60,000 transformation, and (2) further planting of thousands trees.
