The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) crowd funded Stafford Moreton Way Eco-Project raised £6500 to transform a high footfall unkempt green space, and promoting recycling and eco-education (see www.fomd.co.uk/projects). Rainbow the life-sized rhinoceros crowned (11.6.21) the project to highlight endangered wildlife and plastic up/recycling. Rainbow is loved by the community, constantly being filled to its 100,000 clean bottle tops capacity and transformed into beautiful public community mosaics by local schools. Fascinatingly, most of the plastic bottle tops are shredded, melted and moulded, using school-built machinery, forming stunning award-winning objects by students, led by their teacher Mr Patrick Link and colleague Colin, at their new Neston High School.

Mr Link said, ‘This project with your continued support and the school’s creativity has transformed our students’ sustainable thinking and helped us to win multiple prestigious conservation and scientific education awards. Fingers crossed in November when we are competing at the education awards for the Outstanding Commitment to STEM and the GOLD STEAM Club Award.
