Urgent Help Please. Your Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are inviting anyone in our community to urgently help litter pick several decades of litter from a natural haven in the centre of Maghull known as the Dell (adjacent To the Hare and Hounds Pub) at 10 o’clock on Saturday. More information in this link: https://www.fomd.co.uk/event/our-next-one-hour-dell-tidy-up-session/

Why? We are urgently keen to remove the decades of neglect following a rare opportunity created last week, by the kind NHS Mersey Care Horticultural Team, who removed a thick mat of ground ivy and brambles (flailing) which has revealed further huge amounts of litter and debris which had been tenaciously and impenetrably retained by the ground Ivy. We hope to remove this neglect before the growing season starts again for the good health of humans and wildlife. It will also support two further stages of green restoration plan for this year.

Even if you cannot make our organised next one-hour event (10.2.24), we would value anyone calling down throughout the week, to collect any litter they can find.

Huge Thanks. With huge thanks to the pictured: Tom, Ken (Mayor of Maghull), Diane, Sam, Dorina, Paul, Joan (S), Joan (G) and Sarah (Saxon Horticultural & Garden Maintenance Company) (Frank not pictured), who last week attended our first clean up following the ground Ivy removal, which the amazing volunteers collected 12 bin bags of litter and a further huge array of debris. We were particularly grateful to Sarah for her expert community support for the second consecutive week from her friendly local family business (Saxon info below).

Overall, our one-hour sessions over the last 14 consecutive weeks has resulted in collecting 103 bin bags of litter, a huge array of debris and 24 (even more not bagged!) agricultural bags of tree and wall damaging Ivy, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. We have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there. However, we are fully anticipating the collection of hundreds more bin bags of litter with your support.
