The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are one of many local causes that have been overjoyed to receive precious donations from Asa and his lifelong friend Ken, this year.
Asa & Ken have donated over £4,500 from their fortnightly Thursday charity evenings of music and poetry at the Cabin Coffee & Wine Bar. They are on a heartwarming mission to donate £10,000 to local good causes by altruistically forsaking their Thursday night fees.
The informal evenings are friendly, welcoming, humorous with a combination of poetry readings (courtesy of Ken, with a poem below) and wonderful music performances by Asa who has an incredible range of singing genres and an unbelievable vocal range alongside his acoustic guitar playing. Asa is not only a talented musician, but also a playwright, children’s book author, actor, radio presenter, celebrant and much more. Dr Frank Sharp (FOMD) said, ‘most people will agree that on meeting Asa you will always feel better for his creativity and the warmth of his company. He really is a jewel in our community’.
Aeroplanes.
I look out of the window what do I see,
so many aeroplanes it fascinates me.
I contemplate as the planes go by,
I ask where are they going and why.
All those people up in the air,
flying seems to be all the fun of the fair.
Finally, released from gravity’s cage,
the world is now an open page.
High in the sky they fly away,
a brand-new adventure every day.
Some people have a love of flying,
for others its palpitations and sighing.
Even in the early hours of the morning,
well before the day is dawning.
The airport lounge is a very strange place,
with many a passenger out of their face.
But that is part of the fun,
of a satisfying week in the sun.
Then there is the long-haul flight,
where boredom becomes your plight.
The blessed few with pockets full of cash,
conduct themselves in first class.
Where the champagne flows free,
the food is as good as can be.
I don’t want to be a nitpicker,
but they don’t get there any quicker.
So, if you’re going to Australia or Rome,
you can reminisce when you get home.
So, while I look up if you’re in a plane,
my question of where you are going
will remain the same.
