The fantastic children and staff of the Maghull Air Cadets (based in Moorhey Road, next to Hudson Primary School and founded in the 1950’s) have bowled us over with their community support of the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) early this year, so we were delighted to support their assessment for a national award, by attending an inspection along with other community representatives on Monday.

The incredible news is that they have already passed the first round to become Merseyside’s representative from 27 nominees which places them in the top 33 in the country. Now following the inspection they have been recommended (pending evaluation in June) for the final round comprising of the top six squadrons in the country!

FOMD along with other community representatives were delighted to provide our support, as we have found the whole team to be incredibly friendly, polite, supportive, hard-working and an inspiring and shining example in our community.

Background Information.

This year 2348 (Maghull) Sqn was announced as the best Squadron in Merseyside Wing.

Following this, last night the Sqn was visited by Wing Commander Harris (North Region) for our Lee’s Trophy Inspection.

Many hours have been spent over the past few weeks preparing the Squadron for the inspection. Curb-stones were painted, flags were jet washed and dressings were perfected.

The parade was attended by local dignitaries including:

  • June Sefton, Formby RAFA
  • Dr Frank Sharp, Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) Community Group
  • Josh Burns, Maghull Town Mayors
  • Rev Simon Elliot, Vicar St Andrews
  • June Burns, Mayor of Sefton

The standard of the parade was exceptional, the hours of practice did not go unrecognised with numerous complements from the Wg Cdr and Regional Warrant Officer, WO Burbridge.🫡

The rest of the inspection consisted of Wg Cdr Harris reviewing the Sqn building and the wide range of training that 2348 has to offer.

A huge well done to everyone involved:
