Chris Lane (main pictured) holds the RHS National Collection of Wisteria and featured on the BBC Gardeners World programme, kindly gave his expert advice regarding our final aspiration at the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) Woodend Community Woodland Project (junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway), to create a boulevard of wisteria trees. Wisteria are normally climbers but the 20 wisteria will be trained to become trees, along the middle Cotswold path and will complement the circular section of path which has sections of cherry and crabapple blossom trees and another section comprising of laburnum.
We are enormously grateful to the following people over the last two weeks:
- Chris Lane RHS National Wisteria Collection Holder for his generous advice (pictured and with video link https://youtu.be/sNMLljHjCRQ ).
- John Richards for supplying the trees and his advice.
- Ben Greenway (Mersey Forest) for supplying 20×2.5 m free wooden stakes.
- Ian Makinson (Bumbles Children’s Nursery) for storing the stakes.
- Phil, Dave (pictured) and Paul (Mersey Care NHS Horticultural Team) for their valuable time and strength to knock the 20 stakes into the ground.
- Joan, Ros (pictured), Colin and Frank for planting the wisteria.
All the Best,
FOMD
