The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) would like to thank the following local residents for their recent donations:

Stafford Moreton Way Project.

  • Samantha donated a holly which we have planted yesterday on the left-hand side of our Stafford Moreton Way Project alongside a previously planted holly, in the hope that they will merge, in the long term to become a beautiful evergreen welcome.
  • Hannah (who lives close to the site) has also kindly agreed to regularly water them, in addition to the young adjacent Christmas tree we planted last year.
  • Spacecare. We are also very grateful to LCP’s grounds maintenance subcontractor’s (Spacecare) who every Tuesday keep the area looking pristine and are very mindful of our planting schedule.
  • Pam who donated a wedding cake tree which is starting to blossom at the entrance to Morrison’s car park.
  • Maghull & Aughton Rotary who collaborated with FOMD last year, to supply and plant the nine currently blossoming cherry trees that form a boulevard between Morrison’s car park and the medical centre.

Woodend Project.

  • Mary (who lives near our Woodend Project) donated a rhododendron and although the 50x4m border is completely full of 500 donated plants, we were able to swap it yesterday with a conifer that did not survived.
  • Maghull Town Council. Again, thanks are due to the MTC Park Rangers, who removed the conifer and debris from the recently planted trees. They have allocated Paul who is very familiar with the site and recently weed sprayed the path and perimeter, and have used their hand lawnmowers to produce an incredibly neat finish to the grass.
  • John donated some luxurious left-over artificial grass, which we have swapped for the bug hotel’s natural roof grass that did not survive.
  • The Ashworth Hospital Horticultural Team for their invaluable help planting the nine ornamental blossoming trees organised by FOMD and paid for by Sefton Council last week.

Tree Project at Old Hall Park.

  • Christine’s bereaved friend donated three of his brother’s Woodland Trust trees, which we have used here to replace some of the trees that were strimmed accidentally by the council team.
  • Maghull Town Council. Again, we are very grateful to the MTC Park Rangers who following advice from Mersey Forest they have stopped using their strimmers and are spraying around the young trees to maximize their growth potential. In addition, they have made the trees more accessible for our volunteers to provide some maintenance work.

Please be aware that we are not encouraging any more plant donations until next October’s planting season recommences, as we have very little capacity to water them during the summer, but we would be interested in anyone who would like to donate some plastic water butts.
