As part of the grant funded Rowlands Dell Project partnership with the NHS and the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) we are delighted to announce the opening of the NHS Picnic Area. It is situated behind the Medical Centre overlooking the ongoing stunning, tranquil, green restoration of Rowlands Dell.
It is a fantastic health and wellness feature, for staff, patients and the wider community to simply meet, chill or share their meal breaks in. The three recycled plastic picnic tables were designed by Ground Works, installed and landscaped by PR Landscapes, funded from a health and wellness grant, within the collective Rowlands Dell Project (Maghull’s largest green investment The Dell Project – Friends of Maghull and District CIC ).
The NHS Picnic Area replaces an inaccessible area that was cleared of weeds and 30 years of harmful debris by FOMD and has been grass seeded and in the future will have an extra path, tree planting, thousands of bulbs, wildflowers and hedging. It will also connect with the Medical Centre, Rowlands Dell, a viewing area, and the beautiful NHS sunken garden, revealed last week.

Neighbouring the sunken garden, Maghull Town Council in collaboration with the Sefton Council landowners, are funding a permanent plinth, which includes an electrical supply from the neighbouring lamppost, for a recently purchased 20-foot artificial Christmas tree, that will last for many years. The plinth is nearly complete, with the tree being installed and decorated over the next week, and the celebratory switch on organise for Saturday 30.11.24 at 18:00 hours, by Cllr Ken Hughes (Mayor of Maghull). The height of the tree will be enhanced further by the elevation of the land and will provide a safe, prominent display this Christmas and beyond.
1,050 Trees for Maghull and More to Come!!
The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) have planted 16,000 trees since 2021 in parks, schools, roads and are now delighted to have secured 1050 woodland and hedge trees for Maghull’s biggest green centre renovation at Rowlands Dell (next to the Medical Centre) to be delivered in February 2025 from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). This will create a wildlife friendly, pollution reducing 141m hawthorn hedge (450 trees) and woodland (600 trees) comprising of Common Oak, Green Beach, Birch, Alder, Hornbeam, Rowan, Field Maple, Hazel.
