The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) at very short notice had a callout for volunteers today and over this weekend.

Local resident and Councillor Phil Hart kindly and spontaneously responded to our short notice callout, despite important fire station manager, family and council responsibilities, to cheerfully join me in the saturating rain for just over one hour to amazingly collect 12 bags of litter, debris and 20 large nitrous oxide canisters from between the railway bridge and School Lane on Park Lane.

We were also delighted to bump into Leo (known to some as Brian), who for countless years has been a conscientious veteran litter picker on the remaining stretch of Park Lane between the railway bridge and Millbank Lane. He is always cheerful and motivated and really makes a fantastic and inspirational difference to the local environment.

Huge thanks to you both and fingers crossed for more volunteers on Saturday and Sunday with different venues and tasks. For more information check out the events page of our website below.

Park Lane Update:

In recent years Park Lane has undertaken a transformation from previously being described as one of Merseyside’s worst roads it has now received:

A new road surface and drains, a boulevard of 29 standard trees, over 300 thriving hedge whips, a new grass verge with metres of new turf and seeding which is now being properly maintained, bird’s mouthed railings, a power hosed bus shelter, the gas supply to a neighbouring brick structure now safely capped and secured for future removal, overgrown hedging cut back by various owners, the establishment of a beautiful flower border by Elaine (one of the neighbours). Future Street bins to be installed. We also understand that the Poppy Field site has now been adopted by Sefton Council.

All the best,

FOMD

Many thanks to Phil today

Last years magnificent support from the much missed and cherished Mathew and Ken, helping FOMD clean up Park Lane and School lane on a bitterly cold day last year.
