Stafford Moreton Way which leads up to Morrisons and the Medical Centre is receiving a tidy up from the Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD), with border weeding and last Saturday our community wildlife friendly hedge planted in 2020 with support from local schools received its second cut (pictured).
We started the ongoing Stafford Morton Way (SMW) project in 2019, due to concerns about the unkempt overgrown grassed areas in Maghull’s highest footfall area. We crowdfunded £6500 to create an urban wildflower meadow, to promote & inspire wellbeing, community engagement, and raise awareness of endangered wildlife, plastic recycling, and signpost to underused natural local resources. Project updates available here: https://www.fomd.co.uk/stafford-moreton-way/
We have had some fantastic displays from the Wildflower Turf that was planted and although it still has a rich and diverse variety of wildflowers the dominant beautifully flowering Oxide Daisy’s and Natweed have reduced this year, so before its annual cut in October we hope to receive a visit and advice from two local and national wildflower experts to enable us to get the best display next year. In the meantime, we have planted some fantastic donated perennial plants. Fingers crossed for next year.
