The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are one of over 40 wide ranging local causes (see pictured list) that have been overjoyed to receive precious donations from Asa Murphy and his lifelong friend Ken Harrison, over the last two years.

Last week (5.12.24) Asa & Ken reached their incredible donation target of over £10,000 from their fortnightly Thursday charity evenings of music and poetry at the Cabin Coffee & Wine Bar. Their heartwarming mission has donated £10,000 to local good causes by altruistically forsaking their Thursday night fees.

The informal evenings have been friendly, welcoming, humorous with a combination of poetry readings (courtesy of Ken) and wonderful music performances by Asa who has an incredible range of singing genres and an unbelievable vocal range alongside his acoustic guitar playing. Asa is not only a talented musician, but also a playwright, children’s book author, actor, radio presenter, celebrant and much more. More Info at: https://www.facebook.com/asa.murphy.18

Most people will agree that on meeting Asa you will always feel better for his creativity and the warmth of his company, whilst Ken is an astute and hilariously talented poetic observer of life. They really are unsung jewels in our community and provide inspirational lifelines to many local good causes.

A Final Thank You.

The final charity evening was celebrated alongside other sublime performers and donations (£200 each to The Jamie Character 23 Foundation and Woodlands Hospice).

FOMD were surprised and absolutely delighted to receive another kind and generous donation from Asa’s good friend and photographer Keith Wotherspoon, who had attended most of the charity evenings and was so inspired by Asa and Ken that he made a special donation of £100 each ourselves and the Oliver King Foundation, for which we are immensely grateful. This wonderful Christmas surprise will go straight into our ongoing Rowlands Dell green restoration project for the benefit of the whole community (more information below).

Wishing you all a very very Merry Christmas and we hope that all the warmth, love, happiness and kindness you have given to our community is reciprocated in abundance throughout the year.

  • This beautiful haven for wildlife has unbelievably been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch has revealed a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife. In our three-stage plan, stage I has resulted in Maghull’s biggest ever 46-week cleanup in which FOMD have removed 266 bin bags of litter and 25 tons of debris.
  • The Stage II hard landscaping was completed in November, over two months by our NHS landowner partners using a national health and wellness grant fund (representing Maghull’s largest green investment) installing an amazing legacy array of hard landscaping installations to provide accessibility for the whole community.
  • We are now engaging in the most exciting Stage III to repopulate Rowlands Dell with woodland planting and need your help with financial and woodland plant donations.
