The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) have been overwhelmed by the kindness of Andy Morgan (Anwyl Homes Land Director) and his fantastic subcontractor John Cooper (Director of JCR Recycling www.jcr-recycling.co.uk) who for free, donated and delivered 60m of huge logs (26.4.23) costing £950, for a children’s eco-educational nature corner at our Woodend Community Woodland Project (junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway), emulating our Parkbourn Project.

It has made a fantastic border to our new path and we had enough left over to make natural seating in other parts of the project. The new path will take you on a short journey around the rear of the bug hotel which will be surrounded eventually with wildflowers, whilst on the other side the border is populated with rockery, bluebells and a multitude of donated woodland plants. The next stage is to fill the path with a semipermeable weed suppressant membrane and cover it with tons of wood chippings.

It was an amazing contribution in which the massive 3 m logs were delivered on a specialised lorry and moved into place skilfully with a tractor with an intricate grabber. John stayed all day positioning them correctly and cutting them to fit perfectly. We had originally approached Andy over a year ago for some smaller logs that sadly perished over that period but he really came up trumps with an alternative at some considerable cost.

We really can’t thank them enough not only for the fantastic contribution for the enjoyment of the children and others in our community but for their friendliness and generosity throughout.
