Maghull Football Club (1921) with great expectation and excitement have returned to the North West Counties first division after a 26 year absence in July and are surprising everyone.

Last Saturday (10.8.24), after four entertaining games they were sixth in the 18 team league, at home against the early league leaders – Bacup Borough, who had won every game without conceding a goal. Undaunted, Maghull were the better team at half-time leading with a magnificent free kick by Adam Hammill (pictured after scoring). In the second half, the manager ensured that Maghull did not sit back and invite any pressure but maintained a high line, with most players looking for a quick-thinking attacking option, resulting in an unbelievable 3-2 win, despite the opponent scoring a brilliant late goal from outside the box and an unbelievable amount of extra time. The away fans conceded that Maghull had been the far better team and definitely the best one they had played so far and were very complimentary about the ground. Although I did think they had a disadvantage playing in Manchester United colours!

The long serving inspirational chairman (Ron Young – pictured with thumbs up) and his hard-working backroom staff shook hands with every player as they left the pitch beaming with pride, which exploded into singing and chanting when they arrived in the changing rooms, that reverberated far and wide – Maghull are back!

An amazing and entertaining result, that was thoroughly deserved, and a dream come true, in front of a happy 230/260 supporters.

Next Up.

Daisy Hill FC – Maghull moved up to fifth, after what appears to have been a thrilling 4-4 draw away to Ashton Town with a late 90th minute equaliser for Maghull, this evening (13.8.24) – Maghull are then at home against last year’s mid-table Daisy Hill FC on Saturday (17.8.24) at 3 PM.

Bury FC – Followed by and a mouthwatering away game at the historic Bury FC (currently in the above North West Counties Premier league) in the FA Vase. Maghull have booked a couple of coaches, but you can pay at the gate at the Gigg Lane ground (pictured).

Great entertainment from your local community orientated team and really worthy of your support, at the ‘field where dreams are coming true’!
