The Highest Maghull Town Council Award (2023) is the – Civic Award which was deservedly won by the ‘Maghull Food Bank’.
Although it is terribly sad that we are living in a time where there is food poverty and a notably high demand in our area, 9 volunteers at the Maghull Food Bank have crucially excelled in their dedication to meet the demand. Since they formed five years ago they have risen to the challenge of becoming independent from the Trussell Trust, relocated from the closed Methodist Church and worked tirelessly to revamp their new premises at the St. Georges United Reformed Church In the midst of a pandemic. They have consistently gone the extra mile by befriending, providing and sign posting benefits, delivering food, responding to Christmas pyjama appeals and much more.
The Good Neighbour Award – was won by John Lewis.
One of the most important aspects of being able to enjoy where we live is ‘community’ and one of the most important measures of community is how we support and engage with each other. Consequently, we were absolutely delighted to celebrate with John, who is a consistent shining inspirational beacon. He is a retired high school Head Teacher from Northern Ireland who only moved to Maghull in recent years to be supportive to his family. However, his generosity of spirit and deed extends warmly into our community and for those who have met John you will know that you will always part company in a better place.
John helps his neighbours whilst they were shielding, set up a neighbourhood watch scheme, helped plant thousands of trees with the Friends of Maghull & District, litter picks throughout Maghull and perhaps most importantly is always generously kind warm and friendly in every encounter.
