FOMD Nomination for Paul Richards Tree Services

Local Valued Tree Surgeon – Paul Richards Tree Services, has been at the heart of our community for decades and has been an unsung hero throughout that time.

In his role as a tree surgeon, he has developed a reputation with his son Harry, as one of the most consistently reliable, polite, expert, resourceful, accommodating and immensely charitable businesses. In addition, and to this immense credit, he has recently overcome a career threatening condition.

Paul and his son Harry’s tree surgery work is locally considered second to none. Whilst his charitable work has been immense not only has he sponsored an under 13 girls football team for many years but they have been immeasurably generous in providing the community with free logs and so much woodchip that it would equal the size of a house if put together over the years.

The Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD) have been the grateful recipients, on behalf of the community, of most of this woodchip over the last five years.

The woodchip has been essential on borders and around trees to suppress competitive weeds whilst providing an attractive mulch to maintain tree hydration.

Consequently, we have received woodchip multiple times for the 15,000 thriving trees planted throughout Maghull, and multiple replenishment’s for some of the huge borders in Woodend/Bobby’s Wood and Stafford Moreton Way. Other planting areas that have been repeatedly replenished include: Hudson Primary School, St George’s Primary School, Pimbley Field, Old Hall Park, Parkbourn Estate, Millbank Lane, Maghull Moss Side Cricket club et cetera.

Without Paul’s incredible amount of time and generosity over the last five years many of the 15,000 FOMD trees and hundreds of border plants may not have survived so successfully for the benefit of the whole community and climate action change.

Letter of Support (Below) from Mike Brotherston, Nurture Landscapes, Assistant Contracts Manager.

Paul Richards Tree Services have carried out work on behalf of Nurture Landscapes since the beginning of 2021. In that time, PRTS have completed a range of tasks from large fells, crown lifts/crown reductions, stump grinds and many other arboricultural works.

Every job, be it large or small has been carried out with an extremely high level of professionalism with an eye for detail and quality that has made PRTS an invaluable part of our North-West operations. With safety at the forefront of all of their assignments, we can rest easy in the knowledge all tasks are carried out with care and with minimum disruption to our clients.

Along with the arboricultural services provided by PRTS, Paul has always been keen to assist with social value works within our contract base, always without charge. Logs for woodland classroom seating have been donated by Paul on many occasions to our primary schools along with advice on creating a safe and regenerative woodland environment for the pupils. Woodchip is always popular with our clients which Paul has been more than happy to donate using his own time and labour to deliver and distribute.

We look forward working with PRTS in the future and anticipate the much deserved growth of Paul`s business within the North-West.
