In 2020, the Liverpool Echo described Park Lane as one of the worst roads on Merseyside following a straw poll. Local construction works had blighted the lane but with community action it has been gradually transformed. In 2021, Sefton Council & Dowhigh Construction reconstructed the whole road, enforcement actions improved pedestrian access due to multiple overgrown hedging, and this year the long overdue landscaping was undertaken by Persimmon on a large stretch of Park Lane bordering the Poppy Field development.

We are delighted with the recently requested landscaping that resulted in 700 wildlife friendly hedge whips being planted alongside 29 large standard trees. Persimmon and Dunkirk Landscapes have now undertaken the following requests:

  • Strimmed and sprayed the weeds that threatened to overwhelm progress.
  • Levelled the huge verge with topsoil.
  • Turfed and grass seeded the verge.
  • Removed four dead mature trees close to the pond area.

Whilst the community has undertaken the following:

  • Elaine (neighbour) has remarkably populated part of the verge with a stunning array of home-grown plants.
  • FOMD yesterday (24.9.23) replaced 20 tree whips that had been damaged by contractors strimming, using seedlings that had been randomly growing in an elderly neighbour’s garden that we regularly maintain, and then finished it off with a litter pick.

Further outstanding work being explored:

  • Ensuring a Persimmon maintenance schedule for the new landscaping and a newly neglected area of grassed/weed infested verge.
  • Determining who is responsible for replacing the old bus shelter and a brick remnant housing a live gas and electricity cupboard, previously part of a demolished house, neighbouring the bus shelter.
