The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) are one of many local causes that have been overjoyed to receive precious donations from Asa and his lifelong friend Ken, over the last year.

Asa & Ken have donated over £6,000, to about 40 local causes, from their fortnightly Thursday charity evenings of music and poetry at the Cabin Coffee & Wine Bar. They are on a heartwarming mission to donate £10,000 to local good causes by altruistically forsaking their Thursday night fees.

The informal evenings are friendly (everyone in the audience is treated as a friend), welcoming, humorous, with a combination of poetry readings (courtesy of Ken) and wonderful music performances by Asa who has an incredible range of singing genres and an unbelievable vocal range alongside his acoustic guitar playing. Asa is not only a talented musician, but also a playwright, children’s book author, actor, radio presenter, celebrant and much more. With the sale of Asa ‘Jurgen Hug’ gift packs (a song composed and sung by Asa which has incredibly gone viral with 500,000 views worldwide) it enabled two donations of £200, each to be given to FC Litherland under 13’s football team run by Lee and Marie McDavid and Ben Murphy plus a donation to FOMD.

Dr Frank Sharp (FOMD) said, we are enormously grateful to Asa and Ken for their £200 donation (having unbelievably donated a total of £350 previously) for our exciting new community green transformation at FOMD’s NHS Wellness Dell Project (opposite the Hare & Hounds pub). Alongside their precious donations their limitless spirit of community kindness is both heartwarming and inspirational.

Thank you for a brilliant night on Thursday (22.2.24) at the Cabin (near Morrisons). Unbelievably, it was only one day after receiving the Maghull Town Council Civic Award for the Environment. We accepted the award as a celebration and accolade to everyone who has come ‘together to help make Maghull a better place to live’. Our small group couldn’t do it without you, whether it is in the form of volunteering, donations or motivational inspiration.
