ACM window cleaners were calling routinely (2.10.24) at one of their regular customers of 12 years but struggled to get a response from the front door to access the rear of the house. However, by chance they could hear faint cries for help, they initially tried to reassure her through the letterbox and then were able to obtain her daughter’s telephone number from their office, who informed them that her neighbour (Me) had an emergency key.
We entered the house to discover that she had fallen backwards from the landing, lodging her head under the stair lift. We were unable to move her due to worries about a potential neck injury. The window cleaners phoned the emergency services, and we were promptly joined by an emergency responder, an ambulance and then the Fire Brigade. Prior to the emergency services arrival, they reassuringly held her hand, tried to make her as comfortable as possible, and made reassuring conversation and support throughout.
The large ACM team who were all too modest to give their names and were of the opinion that anyone would have done the same in an emergency. However, I have to say that every single one of them are real heroes, as they recognised the urgency, nearly broke the door down, gained access promptly and demonstrated an incredible empathy and compassion with the physical and psychological support they provided throughout.
My neighbour’s family and I are very clear that had the window cleaners not been as vigilant, her unheard appeals for help could have tragically resulted in her death. They are all heroes and tantamount to a fourth emergency service and deserve every accolade. We really can’t thank them enough.
The good news is that my neighbour had a reassuringly thorough assessment at Aintree University Hospital for two days, suffered no injuries, and received physical and occupational changes to prevent any further issues. In the meantime, how reassuring must it be to know that this fantastic team are so kind and vigilant on their rounds in our community.
