1. Cosy Club.
The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) secured £3500 from Sefton CVS, to continue Sefton’s most successful Cosy Club (warm space), in collaboration with The Venue, Maghull Town Council and amazing volunteers.
The sessions recommenced from 30.10.23 and is on every Monday afternoon, throughout winter, between 1 and 3.30pm, at The Venue in Maghull Town Hall.
It comprises of a delicious free meal, fantastic entertainment boardgames, and most importantly a warm friendly atmosphere to make friends.
1.1 The Christmas Cosy Club will take place on the 18.12.23 and will comprise of a festive meal, entertainment from the Mersey Cats, bingo and much more, and will be restricted to 70 residents. The Christmas meal will continue a long tradition of Christmas meals to vulnerable residents, which was only interrupted during the pandemic.
1.2 Other warm spaces throughout the week in Maghull and Sefton can be found here: https://seftoncvs.org.uk/warmspaces
2. Over 100 Free Christmas Hampers.
Another (uninterrupted by the pandemic) uplifting Christmas kindness that has been provided by the town council for decades, is the provision of Christmas hampers that are provided for free by the town council, with a generous discount from Morrisons and packed and delivered by staff and volunteers.
3. The Maghull Food Bank: ‘has never been so busy’.
It is run by Christine Walker and her 2023 MTC Civic Award-Winning Team at St Georges United reformed Church, adjacent to the Iceland Store on Northway. They have never been so busy and are always keen to receive donations and support at this challenging time.
4. Heartwarming Community Organised Christmas Meal.
Vicky Navaro Howells and her husband Dave have kindly been organising a free Christmas meal (19.12.23) for between 40-50 pensioners at 2pm at the Meadows Pub and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community support for this wonderful initiative via social media. A huge thank you to one and all.
