Background
Our valued community magazine began last year following the sad loss of a independent weekly free cherished newspaper (The Champion) that was delivered to 160,000 homes throughout Sefton and West Lancashire, but closed after 28 years, due to the current economic challenges. The newspaper was very worthy of its name as it was the ‘champion’ of the community providing a forum for schools, charities, churches, community organisations, councils, businesses to communicate and support our most vulnerable. Without communication we firmly believe that a community really cannot function as a community. Consequently, I took this concern to the Town Council and asked if we could emulate best practice from my relatives local magazine in Devon entitled ‘Our Dartington Quarterly’ and after some initial reluctance by the Council, a successful trial was undertaken, with considerable support from our amazing council officers particularly Stefanie and Phil who have worked miracles.
It is a great way to advertise, and we hope the magazine articles will continue to stimulate interest, be informative and inclusive, whilst keeping everyone connected in challenging times.
With immense gratitude for your support
