Climate Action – Revisiting Maghull’s 16,000: can you help?
2 April @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
| FreeYour Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) have another one-hour session, that you can simply drop into without any commitment, to help make a positive difference to yourself and the local environment.
On Tuesday (2.4.24) at 09.00 hrs. Any time you can spare would really be appreciated, as we are so close to finishing here. We will be meeting and working in the rear tree enclosure at Old Hall Park, close to the Canal, with the closest access point from Hornby Chase (L31 5PP). If you can’t find us on the day, please ring 07507759813.
We are undertaking some simple but important maintenance work on a few of our previously planted 465 tree whips by removing any competitive grass from inside the tree protecting spirals to maximise growth, and simply reinserting canes and spirals wherever needed. It is a small but important job that keeps the trees alive with evidence that it can also increase growth by 50%.
Three years on, the 1,015 trees (part of Maghull’s 16,000) we planted (pictured) on this site (Old Hall Park) have been our slowest growing and need a helping hand.
Equipment needed: All you will need to bring are thick garden gloves, whilst some have found a rake or spade to be useful to pull the grass away.
Thank You for Your Kind Support in our last mid-week session (Tuesday 26.3.24) in which we achieved the following:
- Surprisingly we were able to maintain half of the 465 trees in the final tree enclosure at Old Hall Park.
- Also last week, we were able to remove canes and spirals from a mature hedge elsewhere, to be recycled in the final tree enclosure.
Finally, huge thanks to the amazing volunteers who brought us to the brink of completion here, including Colin, Jill, Frank. Pictured: Jill in the distance with the remaining trees in the foreground.
We hope you can help; it will really make a big difference.
Many Thanks,
FOMD
