Urgent Help Needed to plant 215 replacement trees that your Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) have received from Mersey Forest today and need to be planted ASAP.

On Thursday (7.2.24) at 09.30 hrs, we will be meeting at Hall Lane Park across the road from the rear car park of the Baptist Church on Old Hall Lane. (Please check the FOMD website events section for more details). We will be prioritising the planting of the small tree whips and if time permits also undertaking some simple but important maintenance work on a few of our previously planted (2021) tree whips.

Our sessions are normally only one hour but because of the need to urgently plant the trees it could be longer, but we will be delighted for any time you can spare without any commitment.

We will be removing any competitive grass from inside the tree protecting spirals to maximise growth, and simply reinserting canes and spirals wherever needed. It is a small but important job and may be the last time we need to undertake any maintenance here, fingers crossed.

Two years on, the 1015 trees (part of Maghull’s 15,000) we planted on this site are looking healthy. They were planted in two tree enclosures to form a small woodland.

Equipment needed: It should be a sunny day and all you will need to bring are thick garden gloves, sturdy boots and a spade.

Thank You for Your Kind Support at our previous midweek session at St George’s Primary School (05.01.24), where Joan and myself were joined by several schoolchildren and their classroom assistant. The children were incredibly helpful and one now has aspirations to be a gardener! We focused on maintaining the previously planted 2500 trees from 2021.

We hope you can help, it will really make a big difference.

Many Thanks,

FOMD
