Celebrating Ongoing Green Improvements in the Centre of Maghull: Can You Help?
22 March @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
| FreeThank you to the fantastic Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers who worked incredibly hard and cheerfully (plied with a celebratory tipple and chocolates!) to rake out the implanted surface debris and litter from the cleared flailed middle slope, following 30 years of profound neglect, at our 20th consecutive one-hour weekly session, last Saturday (16.3.24), at the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub).
Weekly Achievement.
- Raked out five bin bags of litter and lots more rubble debris, which we transported to the recycling centre.
- This week we have received, our long awaited bespoke noticeboard that we hope to install and unveil with a honoured name, that will provide lots of updates and history, in the next couple of weeks.
Please Help. We are returning this Friday (not Saturday – bad weather) (22.3.24) at 10.00hrs and still need your support, to remove ground Ivy and litter slightly hidden under the surface, before the imminent growing season starts again. In addition, please contact us if you know of any organisations or businesses who would be interested in providing some one-off support, that we could arrange around their schedule.
Please check our website’s ‘event’ page at www.fomd.co.uk for more information and any last-minute changes. This is a one-hour event, without any commitment.
Equipment. All you will need are:
- Sturdy boots, garden gloves (essentials)
- If you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer, protective glasses.
- Main Focus: If you would like to litter pick and remove debris, please bring litter picker, garden fork, rigid rake (essential) not lawn rake, to remove some of the embedded litter.
- If you’d like to trim the Ivy hedge, please bring hedge cutter, tree loppers.
Pictured, our amazing volunteers: Michelle, Chris, Diane (& Eva), Ken, Frank, Chloe, John (B), Joan (G), Jon (L), Joan (S), Tom and not pictured Colin and the Dee.
Overall, our one-hour sessions over the last 20 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 151 bin bags of litter, a huge array of debris and 24 (even more not bagged!) agricultural bags of tree and wall damaging Ivy, with multiple trips to the recycling centre. We have received some wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there.
This preparation is for Stage Two involving future green landscaping and planting which has been delayed from next April to commence in August.
A huge thank you once again for your kind support of our group, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels.
Looking forward to seeing you.
