Please congratulate all the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers and the countless others that also joined in over 45+ consecutive weekly sessions removing tons and tons of harmful tenacious vegetation, debris pollutants and 261 bin bags of litter, that have accumulated from 30 years of profound neglect and abuse in which Rowlands Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub) has been treated as an open tip.

It has been Maghull’s largest environmental community action involving so many hard-working kind-hearted individuals and groups, reversing 30 years of harmful neglect.

Stage II – The NHS are investing considerable resources over the next two months to create health and wellness environmental improvements to Rowlands Dell and other areas in their medical centre grounds, utilising funds from a successful grant application that has never been successfully obtained in the north-west before. Following the NHS hard and soft landscaping work, we will be focusing on (Stage 3) raising further funds to repopulate the Dell into a beautiful woodland environment that will be a living legacy haven for humans, wildlife and biodiversity.

Overall, our one-hour sessions over the last 45 consecutive weeks have resulted in collecting 261 bin bags of litter, a massive and shameful array of polluting debris and tons of tree and wall damaging Ivy, with multiple trips to the recycling centre.

Next Up our final session before the closure of the Rowlands Dell for two months – Can you spare one hour, without any commitment, on Saturday (14.9.24) meeting at 10.00 hrs in the Dell (adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub). This beautiful haven for wildlife has been treated as an open tip for decades, where every inch is revealing a variety of pollutants harmful to wildlife.

We hope to remove the final debris before the imminent and huge program of planting, rewilding and some hard landscaping that will be healthy for wildlife and humans, whilst ultimately preventing building on yet another perceived neglected green space.

 Main Tasks.

  • We will continue the final raking out of the huge amounts of harmful to wildlife debris that has accumulated from over 30 years of sad neglect (eg vegetation, rubble and litter), along the worst west section.

Equipment. All you will need are:

  • Sturdy boots, garden gloves (essentials)
  • Ground ivy and debris removal: please bring litter picker, garden fork, rigid soil rake (essential) not a lawn rake, to remove some of the embedded litter.
  • If you are interested in helping to remove the ground Ivy to enable us to access the debris beneath, please bring a brush cutter/strimmer, protective glasses.
  • For the bramble removal just a spade.

Main Picture & Thanks: Thank you to Joan (G), Joan (S), Diane, John and not pictured Colin, Christine and Frank, who worked so hard and cheerfully raking debris out of the final west area of the Dell, last week (7.9.24).

We are receiving wonderful feedback and are clearly seeing the difference every time we are there.

Thank you once again for your generous support of our group, you really are amazing and making such a massive difference to our community at so many levels.

Looking forward to seeing you.
