Dowhigh Construction’s Donations in 2021 and 2022: a massive catalyst for our grateful and indebted community.
Dowhigh’s community support has created immeasurable benefits to our local community and is a testament to this highly successful professional business that their inspiring, local, family friendly caring ethos, continues to run throughout their company and is shared and extended into the community.
In 2021, during the height of the pandemic, FOMD were amazed to receive £500 towards our £30,000 crowdfunding of our Woodend Community Woodland Project to transform an ancient neglected green space at the entrance of Maghull, into a safe, accessible, valued and improved environmental space that would benefit health and wellness for all. We were delighted to meet the wonderfully friendly and generous codirectors Michael and Trevor Murray from their highly successful local family construction business at Woodend. We utilised their kind donation to populate a feature 50×4m eco-educational woodland themed border, alongside hundreds of community plant donations. Michael, Trevor and Irene are pictured alongside our Co-op donors, Maghull Mayor, and our local Sefton Councillor who was a Cabinet member for skills and regeneration and has now become (2024) the leader of Sefton Council. Marion was a guiding light throughout this project.
In 2022, FOMD despite huge success delivering an array of valued community projects, found that funding running costs to communicate the setting up of new projects had become a real challenge. Caused by the pandemic, we lost the local Champion newspaper which circulated to 160,000 homes per week and due to our non-profit status. Consequently, the Mayor of Sefton advised FOMD to contact Dowhigh, who to our disbelief and immense gratitude donated £500. Which we split to part fund the establishment of (1) a website and (2) a noticeboard which has been the catalyst to attracting considerable funding for our NHS Wellness Dell Project and other social and environmental projects that are benefiting the whole community but particularly our most vulnerable e.g. cost of living crisis digital exclusion grant £6140 to provide access to benefits and a warm space grant £7000 providing the most successful (in Sefton) hub for food, entertainment, company for over 70 vulnerable residents every week for two years.
