The Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) has been organising ongoing one hour midweek sessions, to maximise the growth of the 15,000 trees we have planted throughout Maghull and want to take an opportunity to convey a huge thank you to the amazing volunteers who have contributed to the fifth session so far.

Following the maintenance work on the 2500 trees at Pimbley Playing Field, over the four previous sessions, we have now started revisiting St George’s Primary School where the trees were planted along the huge perimeter, as hedging and two large copses on the perimeter of the playing fields, near the well-established forestry school trees. Originally, we had several days of fun planting with volunteers and the children, which was identified on the late Queen’s green canopy map. It has been maintained a few times since then and will also receive a grant for several large standard trees soon, from Northern Forest, to be planted this March.

What They Achieved.

In this first session, we inspected and maintained every hedge tree by removing any competitive grass from inside the tree protecting spirals to maximise growth, reinserted canes and spirals wherever needed. It was a small but important job and may be the last time we need to undertake any maintenance here, fingers crossed.

Huge Thanks To:

Monday (5.2.24) we maintained the huge healthy wildlife friendly perimeter hedge. With huge thank you to: Joan and her daughter (classroom assistant) and the six brilliantly enthusiastic children (one of whom would now like to be a gardener one day! ) A special thank you to their teacher/forestry school lead Teresa Mawtus for her amazing support over the years. If you are interested in a one hour midweek climate action, to make a difference session, without any commitment, please keep a regular check on our event page (www.fomd.co.uk) where our next sessions for the week commencing 26.2.24 will be posted. They are generally scheduled just under a week in advance, so we can be sure of good weather.

Many thanks once again for your brilliant support and please check for future sessions to help make a difference.

All the best,

FOMD.
