A huge thank you for your unconditional warm-hearted kindness that you provide every single day. On behalf of our grateful community (please see full story below).

The fifth edition of Maghull’s quarterly community magazine – Your MAGhull, is being delivered free to 9000 homes and available below online and with previous editions on the links below.

Your evolving community magazine is striving to keep the community connected highlighting:  many positive stories celebrating Maghull, why we should feel proud of the town and how you can help to make a difference.

We believe that without communication a community cannot be community. Please give your support as many of our residents do not have the magic of the Internet, leading to large groups of our community being excluded. We want to connect schools, charities, churches, businesses, councils and much more, so we can help each other going forward to make Maghull an even better place to live.

It also represents a wonderful advertising opportunity whilst also supporting the running costs for our grateful community. Contact information can be found within the magazine below.

Celebrating Community Kindness: Lynne (Warham) MTC Good Neighbour Award Winner 2024 and Sefton Citizen for Good Award 2024.

Background Information (based on my nomination and followed by a supportive letter from Bill Esterson MP). (Civic Awards: https://www.paperturn-view.com/?pid=ODg8813611&p=15)

Since local resident Lynn Warham retired as an Edge Hill University teacher trainer of English, one of her many retirement achievements has resulted in her creating processes that have established her, in effect, as our community’s best next-door neighbour.

Lynne set up her own business with her partner to provide the very best of support for the community’s utility bills but even more impressive is that over the last year she moved from moderating on a large community Facebook page to create a kinder and immensely supportive local community Facebook page known as the Maghulltimate Community which has grown to over 3000 members already, offering everything you’d expect from a good neighbour but multiplied.

Her group provides the following:

  • Consistently warm, caring, sensitive, considerate responses to every post.
  • Giving important information, ranging from when to put the bins out to how to receive physical and psychological support.
  • She galvanises support for important community issues.
  • Every Christmas she spends an immense amount of time providing an online fundraising initiative entitled ‘Christmas Cheer’ which has already raised £7000 of her £10,000 target, to support the local Sefton Pantry (working with local schools to support vulnerable families) and Young Minds (fighting for young people’s mental health).

Lynne’s modern day good neighbour community support is beneficial on so many levels.

If you want support about anything, she finds someone to help or can signpost them to a resource to meet their needs in a safe nonthreatening environment.

Lynne’s kindness is an example and inspiration to all. Her successful fundraising supports the physical, psychological and social needs of the most vulnerable in our community, whilst throughout the process she raises Christmas Cheer for the good of everyone. Anyone who is looking to help the community she will give expert support and time to help them succeed.

In conclusion, her nomination for the good neighbour award may initially seem unorthodox but I really do think that what she is providing is a modern day equivalent to being a good neighbour, to the many and not the few.
