Take a stroll along the 230m Cotswold path at the Friends of Maghull & District’s four-year crowd funded Woodend Community Woodland Project (Bobby’s Wood, junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway), to see Maghull’s unrivalled and stunningly beautiful display of mainly daffodils, tulips and bluebells. The path is fringed by a boulevard of spring blossom trees. The 3000 bulbs, which have multiplied even more, were planted by FOMD with fantastic support from the 12th Sefton Scout group, Merseycare NHS Horticultural Team and the new Sefton Council Leader (pictured) in November 2021.
Along the way, look out for John (the) Barrowman, a family of reindeer, a children’s nature corner with bug hotel, the rockery, 500 donated shrubs, 3,000 trees, a tree from Buckingham Palace, CK (community kindness) art installation and finish off with a picnic at the coronation picnic table which is resplendent with two thrones. In addition, you might be surprised to know, that Woodend is a remnant of a historic five-mile wood that belonged to a Saxon called Uctred recorded in the Domesday book of 1086.
On a sad note, it might be your last chance to say goodbye to an iconic tree that is over 100 years old, as there is a strong possibility that the council will be felling it, following their annual health & safety assessment, despite only receiving a reprieve last year following considerable remedial work on the Crown.
