The Friends of Maghull & District CIC (FOMD) received a telephone call from Paul Beesley (BBC presenter) in June, to inform us that we have been kindly nominated by Cllr John Sayers (Ex-Mayor of Maghull) and unbelievably shortlisted from hundreds to the last four in the BBC ‘Make a Difference Awards’ in one of the eight categories – ‘Environmental Group’, to be decided in late September.
This honour is really for the countless people in Maghull who have supported us with donations, volunteering and kind words of support, as FOMD is only a very small group. We started in 2019, developed into a CIC in 2021, and is represented by a handful of people who are also involved with other charities already. Consequently, we have always relied on different people in our community stepping up wherever we have been undertaking a project, often giving an hour or two of their time.
We have been involved in a multitude of activities since 2019, with the main four crowdfunded projects including the following: Parkbourn Project (1), Stafford Moreton Way Project (raising £6500) (2), Woodend Project (raising £30,000) (3), Tree planting (planting 15,000 trees over the last 18 months) (3).
We would also like to thank the BBC for their daily highlighting of those people/groups who have been making a difference for our communities, which over the years we have found to be a constant heart-warming source of inspiration. In addition, the Champion newspaper has been absolutely invaluable in terms their amazing support not only to FOMD but so many other worthy causes.
A huge thank you to everyone once again and as I said to the BBC, “as an Evertonian I/we are absolutely overjoyed with the unexpected news of a top four finish, especially when we have heard daily about all the awesome charity work that is done elsewhere.
Many thanks to one and all, this accolade is for you.
