Park Lane and its residents have been blighted by four years of construction work pain from the Persimmon’s Poppy Field development, with some of the promised improvements only now being realised, prior to completion and an anticipated application for Council adoption. Last week, 700 wildlife friendly hedge whips were planted and 29 standard trees on Park Lane (1). However, further concerns were highlighted leading to a remarkable no-nonsense response from the community today. Full story:
Following the uplifting tree planting by Persimmon’s landscape subcontractors the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) and others were saddened by how the planting was profoundly tainted by the overwhelming amount of litter strewn around the planting on Park Lane which continued to its junction with School Lane and worsened further along School Lane between the fast-food motorway services to the Maghull North train station, with fields and hedgerows covered in litter by people returning to Maghull after their fast-food treat.
We put a call out, simply asking for any volunteers to help clear these roads at their leisure, which received some good responses, but we were overwhelmed by Christine, Sue, Ken and Matthew’s spontaneous no-nonsense response. Between us, over two hours, every scrap of litter was removed, resulting in 15 large bin bags and well-deserved Starbucks coffee and teas. Perhaps the most surprising part was how easy it was to put our cups in the bin afterwards!
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered on such a cold Sunday afternoon, to pick up others rubbish to make our environment a better place for everyone. You are a real credit to our community.
Many best wishes,
FOMD.
