The Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) second of three Woodend environmental charity project stages has raised approximately £1800 for woodland themed plants to stock a huge newly created 50x4m community border at Bobby’s Wood/Woodend which is situated at the junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway.
The Mayor of Maghull (Cllr John Sayers) and his consort (Cllr Yvonne Sayers) officially thanked some of the main donors: Dowhigh Construction (£500), the Co-op (£311), Molineux Ward councillors (£300) and countless local community donations (£700) made through the charities www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/woodend page and collection containers throughout the year. In addition, Mayor Sayers had special praise for Dowhigh for their recent transformation of Park Lane (previously described as the worst on Merseyside) with major long-awaited repairs, the Coop for their superb yearlong partnership with three local charities, and he even had a small gift for the Co-op manager’s daughter who was celebrating her third birthday.
Dr Frank Sharp (FOMD Trustee) said, “We are immensely grateful for all the donors incredible support that will help to fill the huge community border with shrubs, 2000 bulbs and will provide an inviting beautiful walk along last year’s crowd funded 230m Cotswold path (1) which has been fringed with a £1,500 avenue of blossom trees, courtesy of The Tree Council. The community can still donate online until the end of the month and we would again welcome the community’s kind donations of woodland themed plants between the dormant period of October and March, hopefully emulating the astonishing 200+ shrubs donated last year.
