We are delighted to confirm that after three years, we have received a further 11 promised large ornamental blossom trees, planted in the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) – Woodend Community Woodland Project (Bobby’s Wood), last Monday (3.4.23) With all the accessories they cost over £2000 and complete the picturesque tree lined crowdfunded Cotswold circular path, we created to provide beauty, interest, biodiversity and will encourage walking around the path for health and wellness.
Massive Thanks.
Due to the short notice delivery, it was difficult to get our normal volunteers together, consequently, we are enormously indebted to the Ashworth Hospital Gardeners (Paul, Phil, Phil and Ian), who yet again provided invaluable support, expertise and strength, to plant the trees in our pre-dug holes and rammed in the 22 stakes, remarkably within 1 hour. In addition, their altruistic work actually saved a further £1034 which would have been the cost from the tree provider.
Huge thanks to John, Joan and Phil with their ten hours support for digging the holes and securing the trees with straps and guards. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the tree confirmation, we are now hoping to obtain some wood chippings from the ever-dependable Paul Richards, to act as a mulch and weed suppressant, following the loss of some wood chippings from a generous local resident who had patiently waited a month and kindly put them in 20 bags for our convenience, but understandably had to give them away. Nevertheless, another example of the kindness of our local community.
Finally, thank you to Sefton Council for facilitating this ‘tree-mendous’ outcome.
