We are incredibly indebted to the Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) volunteers new and old who turned up on Saturday (14.10.23) including two earlier solo interventions, at The Dell (the wooded area adjacent to the Hare & Hounds Pub).

Unbelievably, we litter picked 40 bags and a huge array of debris, which took multiple trips to the recycling centre.

Following three years of planning, the initial stages have begun this month in partnership with the NHS, to undertake the NHS Wellness Dell Environmental Project. Last week subcontractors strimmed the area to assess the topography of the Dell which revealed decades of rubbish that was tenaciously entwined in ivy and weeds and was not just unsightly but harmful to wildlife, and represented a rare opportunity to remove it all.

A huge thank you to the remarkable non/pictured volunteers: Tom, Diane, Ken (MTC Mayor), Chris (M), Chloe (MTC Leader), Margaret, Joan, Chris (B), Paul, Graeme. Not pictured: Dee, Chris (R). John and Jill (who collected 4 bags of litter each earlier in the week). Chris (B) who started earlier and removed all the ivy off the neighbour’s fence.

An Incredible outcome and huge thanks for helping to Make Maghull a Better Place to Live, for humans and wildlife!

Best Wishes,

FOMD. www.fomd.co.uk
