Mentorship.

The Friends of Maghull & District successfully applied to the Sefton Council Voluntary Services to obtain charitable finance mentorship for six one hour sessions between August and December 2022. It was a great opportunity for our small new group alongside many other lucky community groups. In our case, we had free mentorship from Joanne Whittingham (Assistant Head) of the Business Faculty at Liverpool Hope University.

Jo was an absolute delight not only for giving her free expertise but for her enormously friendly, empathetic and clear visionary support and understanding, which was undertaken at one of the most challenging periods within her department.

Networking Event.

The sessions culminated, in a wonderful networking lunch event (24.5.23) in which a wide variety of university departments and other community groups were brought together, providing a huge array of fascinating links and further supportive  opportunities in recognition of the importance of the ‘Third Sector’ in education and future employment.

Our outcomes included the following:

  • An established charity that supports carers in Sefton has now been able to establish itself in Maghull, when previously they had no representation.
  • An internationally renowned professor in sustainability wishes to undertake research with FOMD on our next project.
  • An associate Prof in Art History wants to establish links in Maghull.
  • A marketing director has kindly offered support.
  • A student organisation wants to provide volunteers.

With immense gratitude to Sefton Council Voluntary Services, Liverpool Hope University and especially Jo Whittingham (Business School Assistant Head), from a very grateful Friends of Maghull & District CIC.
