Dom & Lorraine who are neighbours of the Friends of Maghull & District’s (FOMD) Woodend Community Woodland Project, Bobby’s Wood, in Maghull, have been lifesavers by installing our three crowd funded water butts, which are filled from their drainpipes into the site.

We have no water supply for the 500 community donated plants and thousands of trees, and in really dry periods a few of our plants have perished even though we have been arduously filling large barrels with limited amounts of water and transporting them 2 miles to the site, so the water barrels are an absolute godsend. In addition, we have surrounded the base of the trees with copious amounts of woodchip which acts as a water retentive and weed suppressant mulch.

We would also like to thank the many visitors who have adopted some of the larger brand new trees to water, which is fantastic because they have been brought up on water timers in the nursery for many years and were showing signs of stress. If anyone else would like to adopt a tree please put your name on a washing line peg and attach it to the tree and water regularly through the irrigation pipes. The pipes are planted beneath the roots to encourage the trees to seek water at a lower level rather than on the surface, as surface roots are very prone to the vagaries of drought.

Huge thanks,
