Last year, the Squirrels from the 1st Lydiate (St Thomas) Scout group were given lots of community donated bottle tops from the Friends of Maghull and Districts (FOMD) plastic bottle top recycling rhinoceros, situated near Morrisons (part of the FOMD Stafford Moreton Way ecology project) and created a stunning 150×60 cm poppy mosaic.
It originally went on display in their local church for Remembrance Day last year and we are delighted that Phil Dillan (Maghull Town Council Community Services Manager) has agreed for it to go on permanent display within the Maghull Advice Centre (behind Costa Coffee) where the community can ‘pop’ into see the uplifting display most times during the week, hopefully in time for this year’s Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Day.
Many thanks to Lisa Wilson (Squirrels Leader) and her talented fellow Squirrels.
In the meantime, we are very grateful for the community’s ongoing plastic bottle top donations. We took another 50,000 bottle tops to Neston High School on the 16.10.24, where they created bespoke equipment to recycle the plastic into beautiful and useful artefacts which has contributed to them winning a prestigious national educational STEM award alongside many other awards.
Best Wishes,
FOMD
