Following last weekends Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) regular open to all One Hour Invitation last week, when 50 people responded to move 9 t of wood chippings around our previously planted 2000 trees at Hudson Primary School and litter picked Park Lane and School Lane collecting 18 bin bags, this week has been deliberately lower key with some fantastic outcomes and updates.

This weekend, local residents Ben and his parents Jim and Chris have very kindly donated nine mature shrubs, requiring only a few volunteers. We are very grateful to Ben and his parents for the donation and to Ben, Joan and Diane for helping to dig them out, and transport them to our Woodend and Parkbourn Projects where they will be a fantastic addition to the 500 plants that the community donated last year.

In addition, we litter picked part of Park Lane briefly again despite last week’s cleanup, and swept up a wheelbarrow load of debris from inside the Park Lane bus shelter.

We were absolutely delighted that Persimmon after several requests in recent years have planted 29 trees and 700 mix wildlife friendly hedge tree whips. We are now negotiating with Persimmon to complement the planting with topsoil to level the verge with the pavement and for it to be grass seeded. In addition, we asked for assurance regarding the planning agreement to replace the dilapidated concrete bus shelter and the adjacent brick structure.

If you’re interested in helping your community whenever you want, please keep an eye on our events page for future One Hour events at: https://www.fomd.co.uk/events/

Many Thanks,

FOMD
